Three people had to be taken for medical attention following an early morning accident involving a fire tender and a private vehicle on Independence Square North, near the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
The accident resulted in gridlock traffic in the capital city.
Police reports indicate that around 6 am the fire truck departed the Fire Service’s Wrightson Road headquarters to attend to an incident in Laventille.
However, as the truck was approaching George Street, it collided with a private motor vehicle.
The crash caused the fire truck to overturn along the roadway.
The driver of the car and two fire officers were taken to hospital for treatment.
They were not listed in serious conditions.
The truck was eventually turned upright later in the morning and was driven away by fire officers.
Fire officials said the accident could lead to delays in their response times since the vehicle was a key component to their initial response procedures.
