Garbagemen robbed in Piarco

Two garbage col­lec­tors on du­ty col­lect­ing refuse in Pi­ar­co were robbed by gun­men of their cash and valu­ables, on Wednes­day morn­ing.

Pu­ran Mathu­ra of Preysal Vil­lage, Cou­va, and Amar­nath Gan­gacha­ran of Soliedad Road, Clax­ton Bay, were held up around 6:45 am on March 29, as they worked along Fourth Av­enue, Orop­une.

The vic­tims were re­port­ed­ly col­lect­ing garbage when they saw two men ap­proach­ing.

One of the men pulled out a gun and an­nounced a rob­bery as the sec­ond man searched the truck’s cab.

The sus­pects lat­er fled the scene on foot in dif­fer­ent di­rec­tions.

Mathu­ra was robbed of TT$180, as well as his na­tion­al iden­ti­fi­ca­tion card and bank cards; while Gan­gacha­ran was robbed of his Sam­sung S20 cell­phone val­ued TT$ 6,000.
