The Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago participated in the Parliamentary Gathering held on the occasion of the IX Summit of the Americas and hosted by the House Democracy Partnership (HDP) of the House of Representatives of the United States.
The event took place in Los Angeles, United States, on June 6-7, 2022.
A release from the Office of the Parliament notes that the delegation was led by Hon. Bridgid Annisette-George MP, Speaker of the House of Represenatives. It included Senator Anthony Vieira, Independent Senator, and Ms. Angelique Massiah, Parliamentary Legal Officer.
Speaker Annisette-George and Senator Vieira serve as Vice President of ParlAmericas and the Vice President of ParlAmericas Climate Change Network for the Caribbean, respectively.
This week, the Summit of the Americas brought together leaders from the countries of North, South, and Central America, and the Caribbean.
The Summit, and its stakeholder forums, sought to promote cooperation towards region-wide, inclusive economic growth and prosperity based on shared respect for democracy, fundamental freedoms, the dignity of labour, and free enterprise.
Parliamentarians, Civil society organizations, representatives of indigenous communities, civic leaders, and business executives and young entrepreneurs also meet at each Summit, promoting dialogue and developing plans of action to address the challenges and opportunities facing the people of the Americas.
