The Par­lia­ment of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go par­tic­i­pat­ed in the Par­lia­men­tary Gath­er­ing held on the oc­ca­sion of the IX Sum­mit of the Amer­i­c­as and host­ed by the House Democ­ra­cy Part­ner­ship (HDP) of the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Unit­ed States.

The event took place in Los An­ge­les, Unit­ed States, on June 6-7, 2022.

A re­lease from the Of­fice of the Par­lia­ment notes that the del­e­ga­tion was led by Hon. Bridgid An­nisette-George MP, Speak­er of the House of Rep­re­se­n­a­tives.  It in­clud­ed Sen­a­tor An­tho­ny Vieira, In­de­pen­dent Sen­a­tor, and Ms. An­gelique Mas­si­ah, Par­lia­men­tary Le­gal Of­fi­cer.

Speak­er An­nisette-George and Sen­a­tor Vieira serve as Vice Pres­i­dent of Par­lAmer­i­c­as and the Vice Pres­i­dent of Par­lAmer­i­c­as Cli­mate Change Net­work for the Caribbean, re­spec­tive­ly.

This week, the Sum­mit of the Amer­i­c­as brought to­geth­er lead­ers from the coun­tries of North, South, and Cen­tral Amer­i­ca, and the Caribbean.

The Sum­mit, and its stake­hold­er fo­rums, sought to pro­mote co­op­er­a­tion to­wards re­gion-wide, in­clu­sive eco­nom­ic growth and pros­per­i­ty based on shared re­spect for democ­ra­cy, fun­da­men­tal free­doms, the dig­ni­ty of labour, and free en­ter­prise.

Par­lia­men­tar­i­ans, Civ­il so­ci­ety or­ga­ni­za­tions, rep­re­sen­ta­tives of in­dige­nous com­mu­ni­ties, civic lead­ers, and busi­ness ex­ec­u­tives and young en­tre­pre­neurs al­so meet at each Sum­mit, pro­mot­ing di­a­logue and de­vel­op­ing plans of ac­tion to ad­dress the chal­lenges and op­por­tu­ni­ties fac­ing the peo­ple of the Amer­i­c­as.
