An employee of Kiss Baking Company Limited was killed after his car was riddled with bullets while on his way home on Thursday night.
Police believe the gunman was waiting in the dark for Ray Marcus Phillip, 29, to drive past. Phillip lived at Solomon Street, Chin Chin Road, Cunupia.
Phillip’s girlfriend, 42, who was in the car reportedly escaped injuries.
According to a police report, at about 8 pm the couple was on their way home from work,
When Phillip attempted to enter Solomon Street, a man, who had his face covered, was seen standing on the corner of the street. He was pointing a gun at the vehicle.
As Phillip continued to turn into the street the gunman opened fire.
Phillip’s vehicle came to a stop in a grassy area just off the road. The gunman then ran away.
Phillip was found slumped behind the steering wheel by officers who were on patrol,heard the gunshots and responded.
Phillip’s body was viewed by the District Medical Officer who ordered it be taken to the Forensic Science Centre.
Phillip’s girlfriend was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where she was treated for an abrasion to the right upper back.
A motive is yet to be established for the killing.
