Ran­jee Chadee ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore Mag­is­trate Cheron Raphael

in the Ari­ma First Mag­is­trates’ Court yes­ter­day to an­swer to charges of be­ing a gang leader un­der Sec­tion 6 of the Anti­Gang Act No 1 of 2018, and traf­fick­ing in mar­i­jua­na.

He was grant­ed $350,000 bail with a sure­ty.

A re­lease from the Po­lice Ser­vice said Chadee, who was want­ed by po­lice for en­gag­ing in gang-re­lat­ed ac­tiv­i­ties, went to the Pi­ar­co Po­lice Sta­tion with his at­tor­ney on Wednes­day.

He was ar­rest­ed and charged on Thurs­day on the ad­vice of Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic

Pros­e­cu­tions, Roger Gas­pard SC.

The traf­fick­ing charge arose out of an in­ci­dent on

Sep­tem­ber 12, 2019, where of­fi­cers of the North­ern Di­vi­sion Gang Unit

in­ter­cept­ed a field­er wag­on mo­tor ve­hi­cle, where the sus­pect was one of

the oc­cu­pants along with oth­er per­sons.

The ve­hi­cle was searched and po­lice found and seized 16.1 kilo­grammes of mar­i­jua­na.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to No­vem­ber 13.
