Ranjee Chadee appeared virtually before Magistrate Cheron Raphael
in the Arima First Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer to charges of being a gang leader under Section 6 of the AntiGang Act No 1 of 2018, and trafficking in marijuana.
He was granted $350,000 bail with a surety.
A release from the Police Service said Chadee, who was wanted by police for engaging in gang-related activities, went to the Piarco Police Station with his attorney on Wednesday.
He was arrested and charged on Thursday on the advice of Director of Public
Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC.
The trafficking charge arose out of an incident on
September 12, 2019, where officers of the Northern Division Gang Unit
intercepted a fielder wagon motor vehicle, where the suspect was one of
the occupants along with other persons.
The vehicle was searched and police found and seized 16.1 kilogrammes of marijuana.
The matter was adjourned to November 13.
