A suspect who reportedly shot at police as he attempted to elude capture on Tuesday in Arima remains hospitalised today.
The suspect of no fixed place of address was walking along Hoyte Avenue around 1 pm on June 6, when he saw officers from the Arima Municipal Police on patrol and began running.
As the lawmen ordered him to stop, he jumped into a nearby drain and was later spotted walking in the vicinity of Mt Zion.
The officers urged the suspect to surrender but as he ran through a yard at Sammy Hill, the officers alleged he pointed a gun at them.
One of the officers discharged his service pistol in the suspect’s direction but he continued running, before pointing the gun at the officers a second time.
The officer in pursuit again fired his service pistol at the suspect who fell to the ground.
The suspect was later taken to the Arima Hospital where he was treated, before being taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope – where he was warded in a stable condition.
Officers reportedly recovered one Glock pistol along with a magazine tube on the suspect, along with his bag which allegedly contained eight rounds of 40 mm ammunition; six rounds of 9 mm ammunition; two black knives; 126 grams of marijuana; 31 grams of cocaine; and one scale.
