An east Port-of-Spain man narrowly escaped gunmen after he crawled through the shattered windscreen of his car after an attack in Belmont yesterday afternoon.
Police said the man was driving his brown Nissan Tiida along Vincent Brown Street at 12.10 pm when gunmen in a gold Nissan Tiida, a black Nissan X-Trail and a gold Toyota Hilux drove up and shot at his car.
The man sped off onto the nearby Thornhill Street but crashed into a light pole and a parked Hyundai Tucson, causing the car to flip on its side. The driver crawled out through the broken windscreen and ran away. He was taken to hospital by a passer-by.
Officers from the Port-of-Spain Task Force visited the scene and retrieved five spent 5.56 shells and a live round of ammunition.
Officers from the Belmont CID are continuing investigations.
