A 25-year-old man from Laventille Road, San Juan, remained in police custody up to yesterday, after reportedly shooting his neighbour twice and injuring himself in the process.

The suspect allegedly walked up to the 34-year-old victim, who was standing in his garden at his home at La Hoe Road, off Laventille Road, Febeau Village, San Juan, at 3.30 pm on Saturday.

The victim, who has known the suspect for over 20 years, said the man pointed a gun at him and fired twice, hitting him in the right side of his chest and left arm.

As the victim collapsed, the suspect ran off.

People who were nearby took the victim to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was treated and warded.

Whilst providing lawmen with a statement at hospital, the victim pointed out the suspect, who had sought medical attention for a gunshot wound to the right foot.

He was subsequently arrested, following which he was treated and then discharged into the care of the police.

The suspect was later taken to the Barataria Police Station.
