Mur­der num­ber 223 was record­ed on Fri­day morn­ing in Care­nage.

The de­ceased has been iden­ti­fied as David "Man­go" Roberts, 27.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, short­ly af­ter 5 am Roberts was stand­ing along Haig Street when he was shot sev­er­al times by gun­men who re­port­ed­ly opened fire on him from a dis­tance.

Roberts, who lived at Jones Street, died at the scene.

Con­cerned res­i­dents told Guardian Me­dia there is an on­go­ing gang war in the area and they want more po­lice pa­trols.

One res­i­dent, who spoke on con­di­tion of anonymi­ty, said gun­men "ran­dom­ly shoot at homes and cars. This thing have we scared and like the po­lice can't find the youth men and them be­hind this. They should bring out the army like what they did a while back. We have to be locked up in our homes like if we are pris­on­ers. That not right. Some­thing needs to be done."

On May 18, pa­trols by marked and un­marked in­creased fol­low­ing re­ports of gun­fire in the hills just off Scor­pi­on Lane. The in­ci­dent was cap­tured in a three-minute video that was wide­ly shared on so­cial me­dia. It fol­lowed a shoot­ing in­ci­dent the day be­fore in a forest­ed area off Seav­iew.

Of­fi­cers from the Care­nage Po­lice Sta­tion are ap­peal­ing to mem­bers of the pub­lic with in­for­ma­tion about these in­ci­dents to con­tact them at 555, 999, 800 TIPS or 482 GARY.
