Murder number 223 was recorded on Friday morning in Carenage.
The deceased has been identified as David "Mango" Roberts, 27.
According to a police report, shortly after 5 am Roberts was standing along Haig Street when he was shot several times by gunmen who reportedly opened fire on him from a distance.
Roberts, who lived at Jones Street, died at the scene.
Concerned residents told Guardian Media there is an ongoing gang war in the area and they want more police patrols.
One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said gunmen "randomly shoot at homes and cars. This thing have we scared and like the police can't find the youth men and them behind this. They should bring out the army like what they did a while back. We have to be locked up in our homes like if we are prisoners. That not right. Something needs to be done."
On May 18, patrols by marked and unmarked increased following reports of gunfire in the hills just off Scorpion Lane. The incident was captured in a three-minute video that was widely shared on social media. It followed a shooting incident the day before in a forested area off Seaview.
Officers from the Carenage Police Station are appealing to members of the public with information about these incidents to contact them at 555, 999, 800 TIPS or 482 GARY.
