Man shot

over land

dis­pute

A 38-year-old man was shot in the right hand and foot, al­leged­ly over the sale of land.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, the vic­tim told po­lice he was hav­ing a con­ver­sa­tion with his neigh­bours near his home about the sale of land in the area when he was ap­proached by a man from the com­mu­ni­ty who told him to leave.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened at about 2.30 pm on Wednes­day.

The sus­pect then al­leged­ly pulled out a firearm and shot the vic­tim sev­er­al times.

The sus­pect then ran away.

The po­lice were no­ti­fied and the vic­tim was tak­en to the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed and ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

Sgt Sci­pio, Sgt Leon, PC Gual­bance, WPC Kheerai, and oth­er of­fi­cers vis­it­ed the scene.

Po­lice re­cov­ered sev­en spent 9mm shells at the scene.

Tran­sit Po­lice Unit

An in­ves­ti­ga­tions has been launched in­to the dis­cov­ery of over 100 rounds of as­sort­ed am­mu­ni­tion found on the com­pound of the Tran­sit Po­lice Unit lo­cat­ed at VM­COTT, off Beetham High­way, Beetham.

Po­lice said the am­mu­ni­tion was found in an un­der­ground stor­age tank at about 10.30 am on Wednes­day by a plumb­ing su­per­vi­sor, as­signed to the Min­istry of Works and Trans­port.

Po­lice said the su­per­vi­sor told them he was do­ing rou­tine checks and works on a valve to the tank when he saw a black bag.

He re­moved the bag and opened it to check it out and saw sev­er­al rounds of am­mu­ni­tion, which he said were all wa­ter soaked and cov­ered in dirt.

The su­per­vi­sor no­ti­fied the po­lice at the sta­tion and of­fi­cers led by Sgt Thomas, Sgt Ram­s­ingh and oth­ers re­spond­ed.

Po­lice said in the bag, they found 40 rounds of 9 mm am­mu­ni­tion; 60 rounds of 5.56 mm am­mu­ni­tion; two red cylin­dri­cal ob­jects re­sem­bling shot gun car­tridges and one warped ob­ject, be­lieved to be an­oth­er round of 5.56mm am­mu­ni­tion.

The items were tak­en to the Mor­vant Po­lice Sta­tion.

No one was ar­rest­ed but in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.

Stolen pirogue

re­cov­ered in Sea Lots

A pirogue which was re­port­ed miss­ing has been re­cov­ered by po­lice of­fi­cers dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise held in Sea Lots.

A re­port said on Tues­day around 8.30 pm, the vic­tim se­cured his ves­sel at the Care­nage Fish­ing De­pot.

Up­on his re­turn the fol­low­ing day, he no­ticed his ves­sel miss­ing. A re­port was made to the Care­nage Po­lice sta­tion.

Based on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, of­fi­cers of the Care­nage Po­lice sta­tion, CID, West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and mem­bers of the Coast Guard went to Sea Lots.

They re­cov­ered the stolen ves­sel which was then con­veyed to Staubles Bay, Ch­aguara­mas for pro­cess­ing.

The ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed dur­ing the hours of 11.30pm and 4.15 am on Wednes­day un­der the su­per­vi­sion of Se­nior Supt Kelvern Thomp­son and co-or­di­nat­ed by In­sp Grant.
