Marcus McDonald is the new Chaguanas Calypso Mionarch. He won the title on Thursday night scoring 252 points and beating a field of 21 fellow artistes with the song To Be or Not To Be.
McDonald sang in 14 position. His song was about to be the best calypsonian as his career choice. In his rendition Marcus lamented that anyone can aspire towards traditional jobs or even into the world of business and politics.
He said it took a special kind of talent to become among the best calypsonians ever to leave an impact on future generations.
Placing second was N’Janela Duncan Regis who scored 243 points with the Spirit of Calypso.
In third spot was Josiah Jordan who earned 233 points with his remdition Download a Conscience.
A total of 22 youths from both secondary and primary schools took part in the competition on the big stage at Ramsaran Streey.
Some of the issues tackled by the youngsters included marijuana decriminalisation, the rising level of crime, the influx of Venezuelans in T&T and the over-running of T&T culture by Jamaican Dance Hall and Reggae music.
