AL96, a new weather system near the Central Tropical Atlantic and east of the Southern Windward Islands—an area of low pressure—is being monitored closely by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS).
In its latest advisory, the Met Service gives assurances that the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago at this time. However, moderate/heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms and accompanying gusty winds are in the initial outlook for mid-week.
The Met Service says at 8:00 am today, AL96 was located near 44.5W longitude (near 1750 km) east-southeast of the Windward islands, and was moving westward at 25-30 km/h.
“The system is now producing limited shower and thunderstorm activity,” the Met Service reports. “Environmental conditions only appear marginally conducive for further development.”
The National Hurricane Center has given the system a 20% chance of developing into a Tropical Depression over 48 hours, and a 30% chance over the next 7 days.
