The registration process for Venezuelan migrant children who will be attending school at the start of the new academic year will commence on June 25.
The Ministry of Education, in a statement yesterday, said effective September this year, migrant children from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will be admitted into schools in T&T.
It said the initiative complies with the Immigration (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2024 and targets Venezuelan nationals under 18 whose parents registered with the Ministry of National Security in 2019 and continue to register annually under the Migrant Registration Framework.
The Education Ministry said the registration process for these children will commence next Tuesday. It said parents are required to visit the Education District Office nearest to their residence on Tuesdays and Thursdays to complete and sign the application for admission of migrants of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela into schools.
The ministry said parents must bring specific documents (original and one copy) to complete the registration process:
• Minister’s Permit under the MRF and Migrant Registration Card (children without this permit are ineligible for school entry)
• Certified translation of the child’s birth certificate.
• Child’s immunization record
• Proof of address (a letter from the landlord with a copy of a recent utility bill as verification), and
• Passport-sized photo of the child.
Parents are encouraged to visit the appropriate district office to ensure their children can access education under this new regulation.
