Min­is­ter of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Fitzger­ald Hinds met with of­fi­cials from the Unit­ed Na­tions Cen­tre for Peace and De­vel­op­ment in Latin Amer­i­ca and the Caribbean (UN­LIREC) yes­ter­day to dis­cuss col­lab­o­ra­tive ini­tia­tives be­tween UN­LIREC, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) and the Trinidad and To­ba­go Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre (TTF­SC), in the ar­eas of se­r­i­al num­ber restora­tion, trac­ing and bal­lis­tics in­tel­li­gence.

The meet­ing took place at the Min­istry of na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty’s of­fice. Join­ing the meet­ing vir­tu­al­ly were UN­LIREC Di­rec­tor, Ms. Mélanie Régim­bal and Mon­i­tor­ing and Eval­u­a­tion Ad­vi­sor at UN­LIREC, Ms. Ma­ia Hi­bben.

Ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease from the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty, dur­ing the meet­ing Min­is­ter Hinds thanked UN­LIREC for the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s as­sis­tance in the ar­eas of na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty. He em­pha­sized his com­mit­ment to on­go­ing projects and wel­comed fu­ture col­lab­o­ra­tion.

Dis­cus­sions fo­cused on joint ini­tia­tives planned for 2022, such as pol­i­cy as­sis­tance for the com­put­er­i­za­tion of the firearms li­cens­ing sys­tem; as well as ca­pac­i­ty build­ing for law en­force­ment and na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cials, specif­i­cal­ly in the area of firearm and bal­lis­tics analy­sis.
