Cultural icon and reigning Calypso Monarch, Machel Montano, poured his heart out sharing a message to inspire Tobago’s CSEC and Cape awardees, during a ceremony on Friday, at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex.
In his feature address, he encouraged the awardees to go through life boldly.
“Somebody will support you. Don’t be afraid to step in places where people haven’t gone before.”
Montano shared his personal journey, reminiscing on disappointments.
“There were places we went to sing calypso and they’re singing ‘Amazing Grace’. I’m talking about shame! This is 1987. In that moment I used to come off the stage and I used to feel so hurt.”
He then shared what he did in times when he had to remain resilient.
“So, what was looking like a failure, sometimes people would laugh but you have to pull yourself together," he said.
