The Port of Spain Shop­ping Com­plex Lim­it­ed (POSS­CL) plans to beef up se­cu­ri­ty at its two malls, ahead of the Christ­mas sea­son.

Chair­man of the POSS­CL, Mont­gomery Guy, said both malls fall un­der the purview of the Min­istry of Hous­ing and Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment and have 225 ten­ants. 

Guy said he met with Port-of-Spain May­or Chin­ua Al­leyne last week to dis­cuss how the Port-of-Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion can as­sist curb­ing crime.

“High­est on our agen­da is the is­sue of crime which has erod­ed the com­fort, safe­ty and se­cu­ri­ty of our cus­tomers as well as out ten­ants,” Guy said, “and we are look­ing at ways in which we can col­lab­o­rate with the May­or and the Cor­po­ra­tion so that we can de­vise plans to mit­i­gate the risk of ex­po­sure to our key stake­hold­ers.”

He said high­er traf­fic is an­tic­i­pat­ed at the malls be­cause of the Christ­mas sea­son.

“Our agen­da would be to see in­creased pa­trols at the malls so there is that lev­el of com­fort and peo­ple can have the free­dom to shop and re­al­ly boost the lo­cal econ­o­my in Port-of-Spain, so it’s a win-win for every­one,” Guy said.
