The Port of Spain Shopping Complex Limited (POSSCL) plans to beef up security at its two malls, ahead of the Christmas season.
Chairman of the POSSCL, Montgomery Guy, said both malls fall under the purview of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and have 225 tenants.
Guy said he met with Port-of-Spain Mayor Chinua Alleyne last week to discuss how the Port-of-Spain City Corporation can assist curbing crime.
“Highest on our agenda is the issue of crime which has eroded the comfort, safety and security of our customers as well as out tenants,” Guy said, “and we are looking at ways in which we can collaborate with the Mayor and the Corporation so that we can devise plans to mitigate the risk of exposure to our key stakeholders.”
He said higher traffic is anticipated at the malls because of the Christmas season.
“Our agenda would be to see increased patrols at the malls so there is that level of comfort and people can have the freedom to shop and really boost the local economy in Port-of-Spain, so it’s a win-win for everyone,” Guy said.
