Moruga man gets $75k bail for fraud

A 36-year-old man was grant­ed bail with a sure­ty in the sum of $75,000 from Jus­tice of the Peace Glen Balka­ran af­ter he was charged with fraud­u­lent con­ver­sion in the sum of $33,000.

De­von Ra­madar of Moru­ga, who was charged on 23rd March, is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear at the Siparia Mag­is­trates’ Court on April 13.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, a woman al­leged­ly paid the sum of $33,000 to a man, for the pur­chase and de­liv­ery of build­ing ma­te­ri­als to be used on an on­go­ing project. The ma­te­ri­als were to be de­liv­ered on Oc­to­ber 4th, 2021. How­ev­er, the ma­te­ri­als were al­leged­ly nev­er de­liv­ered as promised, and all ef­forts to ac­quire a re­fund proved fu­tile.

Of­fi­cers of the South and South West­ern Di­vi­sion con­duct­ed in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the mat­ter. Dur­ing the pe­ri­od March 21st, to March 23rd, 2023, of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to the home of the sus­pect, with a search war­rant. Af­ter the ex­er­cise, the sus­pect was de­tained, at the Fraud Squad of­fice on con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.

PC Kissoon con­tin­ued in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the mat­ter and the sus­pect was ar­rest­ed and charged with Fraud­u­lent Con­ver­sion.
