Angry motorists and commuters traversing the Caparo Valley Brasso Road to the areas of Tabaquite, Flanagin Town, Mamoral and Brasso would have to wait until February 2025 for some permanent relief from a landslide.
Motorists complained that repairs to a landslide in the vicinity of Mamoral Junction is the cause for many delays and much damage to their vehicles. Motorists believe that repairs to the 100-metre landslide is taking too long to complete.
The local government representative for the area of Caparo/Mamoral in the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC), John Lezama, said residents should get some relief for Christmas.
He told Guardian Media the project was started by the Ministry of Works in November 2023. However, when the works commenced, the landowner to the south of the affected roadway moved to stop the project. He said the project was restarted three months later when the legal paperwork was sorted out between the landowner and the State.
Councillor Lezama said the relocation of a WASA water main was the hold up, and that WASA is undertaking the relocation and was expected to finish later this week.
“By the end of this week, this work is shutting down for the Christmas season,” he said. “What I was told is that the contractor would be able to do some milling, not paving, to have the road in some satisfactory condition.”
