Relatives of murder victim Rachel Mohammed, 30, are now said to be fearful for their lives as they believe they too may become targets of alleged gang members.

Mohammed and her female friend were standing near Mohammed’s Dookiesingh Street, St Augustine home at about 11.20 pm on Saturday when a gunman walked up to them and opened fire.

A video that went viral on social media showed both women running away from the gunman. Mohammed and her friend were hit several times and later taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mount Hope, where they were treated and warded. However, Mohammed succumbed to her injuries on Sunday shortly after 10 am.

One of Mohammed’s relatives, who did not want to be identified, said yesterday that they believe she was the intended target of the gunman because she knew of certain illegal activities and the alleged people involved.

“She got mingled up with the wrong people and now she is dead because of that. We warned her many times. Now, we are afraid for our own lives because thing out here real serious,” Mohammed’s relative said. Police sources told Guardian Media that they have several leads in the case and are hopeful for a breakthrough soon. (Rhondor Dowlat)
