Members of the T&T Police Service yesterday seized several items owned by the service, an illegal firearm and ammunition during a raid on a property in Morvant.
Information relayed to the TTPS by members of the public led officers to launch an anti-crime operation between 8 and 10 am at Valley Drive, Sixth Avenue, Morvant.
The exercise was spearheaded by Snr Supt Edwards, Supt Birch and ASP Callender, was coordinated by Insp Ramsingh and Sgt Maynard and supervised by Cpl Friday and others from the Morvant CID.
Upon arrival in the area, officers found a gold Honda Accord parked in the yard of an unoccupied house.
Upon searching the trunk, officers found two police operational jackets; one pair of operational pants; one pair of black boots; three black hats; one police-issued bullet proof vest; strobe lights; a pair of registration plates; one rifle; and three magazines containing 90 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. The items were seized and taken to the Morvant station.
No one has been arrested in relation to the find thus far.
Praising the ongoing efforts by officers to reduce crime generally, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations, Junior Benjamin, commended North Eastern Division (NED) officers involved in the exercise.
He said, “I am really proud of the work done by the officers here from the NED. It was tremendous work done in terms of the coordination and execution of the mission, so that they were able to get these results.”
Benjamin said the success was reflective of the goals of the TTPS to get crime under control, and that the meticulous planning by Snr Supt Mervyn Edwards and his team was testimony that officers were committed to the task at hand.
He added, “As we continue to have that zero tolerance in terms of a crime fight, this is only the beginning of what can be accomplished as we relentlessly pursue all those who seek to perpetrate crimes against persons in T&T.”
Benjamin reiterated, “We are coming and we will be on the lookout as we aggressively deal with the situation, as our aim is to ensure law and order, as well as the safety and security of all citizens in T&T.”
