Service stations operating under the Trinidad & Tobago National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP) are expected to benefit from collaborative efforts between NP and the Police Service to improve security at their operations.
On November 14, 2024, NP held a Key Stakeholder meeting with its north-based service station dealers, as part of its efforts to improve the safety and security of its service station network. A similar meeting was held with NP’s south-based service station dealers in October.
In addition to the north-based service station dealers and NP executives, the meeting was attended by Manager of Protective Services for First Citizens Bank, Vidal Sealey; Director of Crime Stoppers Trinidad and Tobago, Darrin Carmichael; and Assistant Superintendent Ashraf Ali of the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
“Safety and security have always been paramount and now more than ever, with the rise in crime, it is critical for NP to engage the Dealers on these issues in its network, along with collaborating with state agencies to create a more holistic approach,” NP’s Chief Executive Officer (Ag.), Chester Beeput, told the meeting’s participants, to whom the company presented its Security Action Plan for its Service Station Network.
Expert opinions were also presented by Vidal Sealey of FCB who addressed the issue of ATM Security, while Darrin Carmichael of Crime Stoppers Trinidad and Tobago spoke on several topics including Risk Assessment and Situational Awareness.
The TTPS’ representative, ASP Ashraf Ali, praised NP for its proactive approach, and particularly the importance of collaboration with the TTPS by all involved to combat this issue.
ASP Ali stated further that while security systems are costly, there is no value that can be placed on human life.
