Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management, Major General Rodney Smart, said it is important for Tobago to brace for a challenging wet season this year.

Speaking with CNC3 during the ODPM's annual Disaster Preparedness Month campaign at the Lowlands Mall in Tobago, Major General Smart said the island must listen to the scientists and take action to strengthen its defenses for what will come.

“Even though i’m saying we are ready, we will continue improving ourselves and communities,” he said, “so at the end of the day, it’s not organizations that are responding, it’s the communities that are becoming prepared.”

With the Meteorological Office forecasts indicating an active hurricane season, Major General said the ODPM is determined to ensure that the message of preparedness reaches every corner of the country.
