The fourth session of the 12th Parliament will be launched at the Red House, Port-of-Spain, at 1.30 pm on Monday.
In a media release yesterday, the Parliament stated that President Christine Kangaloo had issued a proclamation for the prorogation of the current third session of the Parliament. That session ends at midnight tonight (Friday).
A proclamation has also been issued for the launch of the fourth session at 1.30 pm on Monday. Parliament confirmed that the event will be a ceremonial launch.
President Kangaloo will inspect a guard of honour outside the Parliament building and will later address a joint sitting of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
It will be Kangaloo’s first address to the Parliament as President.
She was Senate President before becoming President.
The President’s address to both Houses of Parliament is expected to be delivered in the House of Representatives’ North Chamber.
This will be the first time that Chamber will be used, after it was closed last November for repairs to its air conditioning duct and some decorative moulding which fell due to some condensation issues.
Repairs were completed between May and June and the Chamber was deep-cleaned and prepared. It was recently described by Udecott as being ready for occupancy.
Before the President’s address, it is expected that each House will meet in their respective chambers—the Senate in the South Chamber and the House of Representatives in the North Chamber, before Senators join their parliamentary colleagues in the North Chamber for President Kangaloo’s feature address.
Members of the judiciary and the diplomatic corps are also expected to attend.
