The Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) is typically one of the most affected regions during adverse weather events. Now, with a possible Tropical Storm barrelling toward the country, the corporation has distributed over 1,000 sandbags to residents.
In a brief update with Guardian Media, PDRC Chairman Dr Allen Sammy said they intend to get more sand to provide sandbags to those who need it.
However, in the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation (SGRC), vice chairman Kenwyn Phillip said they've run out of sand.
"We have no sand here today. We had to call national quarries. I talk to Mr Wilson who told me national quarry is closing at 12 o'clock. When we call the department, the CEO not answering our phone [call], the chairman not answering our phone. It's very disrespectful by the CEO in times like these to not answer the phone," he said.
"Nothing is in place here," he added.
