Patriotic Front (PF) leader Mickela Panday is daring larger political parties who she claims have been harassing her candidates on the campaign trail to target her instead.
“I’m jealous a lil bit, not of the bullying but come nah, if you bullying you have to be frightened right, nobody eh bullying me yet,” she joked during a meeting at Twin Walls, San Fernando, on Sunday.
At the time, she was defending PF candidate for Oropouche East, Danny Jadoonanan, who had earlier revealed the intimidatory tactics were getting worse on the campaign.
“The Patriotic Front is experiencing a lot of bullying that is taking place right now. They continue to bully us, because you know why? We ain’t thief nothing, we ain’t have no police and no EMBD (Estate Management and Business Development Company Ltd) investigating we. We ain’t have no corruption allegation, so what they go say—split the vote, PNM funding we, so they have to find something to say,” Jadoonanan said at the meeting.
Contacted yesterday on the claims, Jadoonanan said he has also received calls with threats to his wife and family. He said he also stopped posting his walkouts because people have been following them.
“The man call me—Mickela funded by the PNM and I will shoot up your house, I will shoot up your family,” he said.
He said he has since made a report to the Barrackpore Police Station.
Jadoonanan said apart from this, even his family has turned against him because he would not withdraw his PF nomination. He said in a letter dated April 7, 2025, the owners of South Ranch Limited (a company that provides wedding venues), who are his relatives, stated they were not affiliated with the PF or himself. Instead, he said the company, whose motto is “Where families come together,” pledged their allegiance to United National Congress (UNC) and its candidate Dr Roodal Moonilal. The letter was signed by company secretary Brianna Jodoonanan.
During the meeting on Sunday, Panday commended Jadoonanan, who was not scheduled to speak at the meeting, for his courage, as she described his situation in Oropouche East as dire. She asked supporters in San Fernando for their partnership and support as they move away from the old politics.
Earlier this month, the PF had also said threats from other parties had forced four of their election candidates to withdraw from the race.
Guardian Media tried contacting outgoing Oropouche East MP Moonilal for comment but up until press time there was no response.
Also contacted on the allegations yesterday, UNC chairman Dave Tancoo said, “If this is happening he should have reported it to the police and provide evidence of his claims.”
