Prime Min­is­ter Stu­art Young will trav­el to Ja­maica on Wednes­day, March 26, 2025, for a meet­ing with U.S. Sec­re­tary of State Mar­co Ru­bio, ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter.

The re­lease said dis­cus­sions will fo­cus on U.S. for­eign pol­i­cy and its im­pact on Trinidad and To­ba­go and the wider Caribbean. It de­scribed the meet­ing as an op­por­tu­ni­ty to strength­en ties be­tween Trinidad and To­ba­go, CARI­COM, and the Unit­ed States while ex­plor­ing ar­eas for deep­er co­op­er­a­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to the state­ment, Young sees the meet­ing as part of his com­mit­ment to main­tain­ing high-lev­el di­a­logue with the U.S. ad­min­is­tra­tion for the ben­e­fit of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s cit­i­zens.

Young’s trip fol­lows a meet­ing of CARI­COM heads of gov­ern­ment yes­ter­day, where re­gion­al lead­ers dis­cussed key is­sues af­fect­ing mem­ber states. 

Oth­er CARI­COM lead­ers are al­so ex­pect­ed to at­tend bi­lat­er­al dis­cus­sions with the Unit­ed States in Ja­maica.

The state­ment did not in­di­cate who would act as prime min­is­ter in Young’s ab­sence. It said For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs Min­is­ter Amery Browne will ac­com­pa­ny him on the trip.
