Prime Minister Stuart Young will travel to Jamaica on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, for a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister.
The release said discussions will focus on U.S. foreign policy and its impact on Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean. It described the meeting as an opportunity to strengthen ties between Trinidad and Tobago, CARICOM, and the United States while exploring areas for deeper cooperation.
According to the statement, Young sees the meeting as part of his commitment to maintaining high-level dialogue with the U.S. administration for the benefit of Trinidad and Tobago’s citizens.
Young’s trip follows a meeting of CARICOM heads of government yesterday, where regional leaders discussed key issues affecting member states.
Other CARICOM leaders are also expected to attend bilateral discussions with the United States in Jamaica.
The statement did not indicate who would act as prime minister in Young’s absence. It said Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Minister Amery Browne will accompany him on the trip.
