Police officers destroyed two cannabis fields in Couva on Wednesday during a Cannabis Eradication Exercise.
According to police, the exercise was conducted by officers attached to the Freeport Criminal Investigations Department, the Special Intelligence Unit, the Central Division Task Force (Area South), and the Air Support Unit. The team acted on intelligence and moved into a forested area off Carli Bay Road, where the fields were found.
Officers discovered a plot of land containing two cannabis fields with about 350 fully grown cannabis trees. The plants carried an estimated street value of TT$350,000. All the plants were destroyed at the site.
Police stated that investigations are ongoing into the discovery. No arrests were reported in connection with the fields.
The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Edwards of the Special Intelligence Unit, Superintendent Glodon, and Assistant Superintendent Reyes. Supervision on the ground was provided by Sergeant Harriot of the Central Division.
Police said such exercises are part of ongoing operations targeting the cultivation and distribution of cannabis across the division. Intelligence gathering will continue, and further eradication operations are expected as part of wider anti-crime efforts in the region.
