A po­lice of­fi­cer who was last as­signed to SIU Pi­ar­co Air­port died in­stant­ly in a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent on Sun­day night in Arou­ca.

The of­fi­cer was iden­ti­fied as Mar­lon Rawl­ings, 43, of San­gre Grande.

Po­lice said around 8:15 pm the dri­ver of an­oth­er ve­hi­cle was in com­pa­ny with his wife and nine-year-old son in a black Toy­ota Hilux pro­ceed­ing south along Gold­en Grove Arou­ca in the vicin­i­ty of the Gold­en Grove Prison when Rawl­ins' ve­hi­cle PDC 765, a white Nis­san Ti­i­da 1, which was pro­ceed­ing in a norther­ly di­rec­tion swerved on to the south bound lane di­rect­ly in in the path of the Hilux re­sult­ing in a head on col­li­sion.

Rawl­ins sus­tained in­juries to his head and as a re­sult ex­it­ed his ve­hi­cle to lie on the road when he died.

The oth­er dri­ver com­plained of neck pains and he along with his fam­i­ly mem­bers were treat­ed for mi­nor in­juries be­fore be­ing tak­en to the Ari­ma Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal to seek fur­ther med­ical at­ten­tion.

Both ve­hi­cles were re­moved to the Arou­ca Po­lice sta­tion.

The D.M.O. Dr Men­doza vis­it­ed the scene and pro­nounced Rawl­ins dead at 8:41pm. The scene was al­so vis­it­ed and pho­tographed by of­fi­cers of the ND­C­SI. In­spec­tor High­ly al­so vis­it­ed the scene in the ca­pac­i­ty of du­ty of­fi­cer.
