A police officer who was last assigned to SIU Piarco Airport died instantly in a vehicular accident on Sunday night in Arouca.
The officer was identified as Marlon Rawlings, 43, of Sangre Grande.
Police said around 8:15 pm the driver of another vehicle was in company with his wife and nine-year-old son in a black Toyota Hilux proceeding south along Golden Grove Arouca in the vicinity of the Golden Grove Prison when Rawlins' vehicle PDC 765, a white Nissan Tiida 1, which was proceeding in a northerly direction swerved on to the south bound lane directly in in the path of the Hilux resulting in a head on collision.
Rawlins sustained injuries to his head and as a result exited his vehicle to lie on the road when he died.
The other driver complained of neck pains and he along with his family members were treated for minor injuries before being taken to the Arima General Hospital to seek further medical attention.
Both vehicles were removed to the Arouca Police station.
The D.M.O. Dr Mendoza visited the scene and pronounced Rawlins dead at 8:41pm. The scene was also visited and photographed by officers of the NDCSI. Inspector Highly also visited the scene in the capacity of duty officer.
