Police are probing five murders which occurred from Wednesday night into yesterday.
In the latest incident, 21-year-old Alexander Brown, of Chinapoo, was pronounced dead at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH) after he was shot near Chafford Courts around 5.15 pm.
Officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch visited the scene after receiving a call from a resident and found the victim bleeding from gunshots.
Two people were also gunned down at Ovid Alley, Laventille, Port-of-Spain, 45 minutes later.
Officers said Tyresse Cowie, of Santa Cruz, and Tyrese Charles, of Barataria, were reportedly visiting their girlfriends in the community at 6 pm, when they were accosted and shot. Police said that the gunman/gunmen reportedly took photos of the victims and sent them electronically to someone to confirm their identities before shooting them.
On Wednesday, Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) foreman Avid “Blindy” Reece, 47, was killed at his Upper Cocorite Trace, Cocorite home.
Police said he standing in his gallery at 8.35 pm when gunshots were heard.
A relative of Reece who was inside rushed out to find him bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds about the body. The police were notified of the killing.
In an unrelated incident, Sangre Grande resident Tyrell Alvarez, 27, was killed while asleep at his Northeastern Settlement, Sangre Grande home.
Police said at 12.30 am, Alvarez was asleep in his bedroom when a 45-year-old male friend, who was asleep in the living room, reportedly heard gunshots coming from the room. It was alleged the friend ran into the room and found Alvarez bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head.
Officers from the Eastern Division Task Force responded and found Alvarez still alive. He was taken by police to the Sangre Grande Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 2.17 am.
