After 10 years of using a community centre, the parents of the Preysal Government Primary School are demanding, once again, that construction of their new school be completed.
On Tuesday, the PTA and Caroni community builders held a joint news conference to highlight the frustration of parents and students.
Jasmine Ali, president of the PTA, says the parents are fed up with demonstrating and keeping their children at home.
Ali says construction of the new school started in 2014 but the project was abandoned. She points out that for the last decade, the students have been housed at the Preysal Community Center where they have had to face problems with water, sewerage overflows, and malfunctioning air conditioning units.
The PTA says the old school once housed 500 students. However, the school's population has since dwindled to 250.
