Prisons Commissioner confirms only 6 recaptured so far

De­spite ru­mors that a sev­enth pris­on­er has been re­cap­tured, Pris­ons Com­mis­sion­er Ger­ard Wil­son has con­firmed to Guardian Me­dia that on­ly six es­capees are in cus­tody.

The Com­mis­sion­er ex­plained that the six men who were re­cap­tured in Las Lo­mas, hours af­ter es­cap­ing Re­mand Prison, are cur­rent­ly as­sist­ing po­lice with in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the es­cape.

He re­mains hope­ful that the in­for­ma­tion pro­vid­ed will lead po­lice to Olatun­gi Den­bow and Michael Find­ley.

The men were part of a group of eight who es­caped from Re­mand Prison dur­ing the ear­ly hours of Wednes­day morn­ing.

Com­mis­sion­er Wil­son said he had re­ceived a pre­lim­i­nary re­port and will now ap­point a se­nior of­fi­cial to head an in­quiry to de­ter­mine cul­pa­bil­i­ty.

Wil­son was speak­ing at the recom­mis­sion­ing cer­e­mo­ny of the Pris­ons Sports and Recre­ation­al Club In Arou­ca.

He said the new­ly ren­o­vat­ed fa­cil­i­ty will al­low for up­grad­ed ser­vices for the wel­fare of of­fi­cers.
