The Gender and Child Affairs Division has initiated inter-ministerial collaboration with the Ministry of Education for the distribution of the National Child Policy (NCP) to the school population. On February 11, 2022 the Honourable Ayanna Webster-Roy, Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, symbolically handed over the NCP – Child Friendly Version to the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Education, at the Linda Baboolal Meeting Room, Parliamentary Complex, Cabildo Building.
The distribution of the Child-Friendly version of the Policy forms part of the Division’s multi-sectoral approach to raising awareness on the rights of children and the commitments of Government as contained in the policy. A total of 98,000 English Versions of the NCP will be distributed via the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPOST) to four hundred and seventy-six (476) primary and one hundred and thirty-seven (137) secondary schools across the country. A further 2,000 copies of the NCP - Child Friendly Spanish Version will also be distributed to Spanish speaking children presently residing in Trinidad and Tobago. The Spanish copies will be distributed through government agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations as the Division continues its sensitisation efforts. The intention is to bring the information to children and adults alike to build respect for the human rights of all, including the most vulnerable.
The Division wishes to thank all of its partners who have accepted the opportunity to be part of this initiative as we work together to ensure that the rights of every child will be upheld and protected.
