The Gen­der and Child Af­fairs Di­vi­sion has ini­ti­at­ed in­ter-min­is­te­r­i­al col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion for the dis­tri­b­u­tion of the Na­tion­al Child Pol­i­cy (NCP) to the school pop­u­la­tion. On Feb­ru­ary 11, 2022 the Ho­n­ourable Ayan­na Web­ster-Roy, Min­is­ter with re­spon­si­bil­i­ty for Gen­der and Child Af­fairs, sym­bol­i­cal­ly hand­ed over the NCP – Child Friend­ly Ver­sion to the Ho­n­ourable Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly, Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion, at the Lin­da Ba­boolal Meet­ing Room, Par­lia­men­tary Com­plex, Ca­bil­do Build­ing.

The dis­tri­b­u­tion of the Child-Friend­ly ver­sion of the Pol­i­cy forms part of the Di­vi­sion’s mul­ti-sec­toral ap­proach to rais­ing aware­ness on the rights of chil­dren and the com­mit­ments of Gov­ern­ment as con­tained in the pol­i­cy. A to­tal of 98,000 Eng­lish Ver­sions of the NCP will be dis­trib­uted via the Trinidad and To­ba­go Postal Cor­po­ra­tion (TTPOST) to four hun­dred and sev­en­ty-six (476) pri­ma­ry and one hun­dred and thir­ty-sev­en (137) sec­ondary schools across the coun­try. A fur­ther 2,000 copies of the NCP - Child Friend­ly Span­ish Ver­sion will al­so be dis­trib­uted to Span­ish speak­ing chil­dren present­ly re­sid­ing in Trinidad and To­ba­go. The Span­ish copies will be dis­trib­uted through gov­ern­ment agen­cies and Non-Gov­ern­men­tal Or­gan­i­sa­tions as the Di­vi­sion con­tin­ues its sen­si­ti­sa­tion ef­forts. The in­ten­tion is to bring the in­for­ma­tion to chil­dren and adults alike to build re­spect for the hu­man rights of all, in­clud­ing the most vul­ner­a­ble.
