Overloaded trucks will be ticketed, says Ryan Rampersad, the Chairman of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC). Rampersad was at the time overseeing an exercise by the CTTRC to repair badly damaged parts of Thompson Road, Palmiste on Wednesday morning.

Rampersad said he is aware of the complaints by many residents that heavy and overweight trucks are operating on roads not designed to handle abnormal limits Rampersad said, “We have made complaints to Traffic Management, we have made complaints to the T&T Police Service (TTPS) and we are going to be playing signs all over the areas especially where you have minor roads where these overweight trucks are not supposed to pass.

We are going to be deploying the municipal police to man these areas, man these areas and be vigilant and issue tickets where it is required. We are taking a serious stance, material is very scarce, when we do get some funding and repair these roads, we cannot have these trucks damaging these roads.”
