Rel­a­tives of Travis Jack, who was killed in an ac­ci­dent on Sun­day, be­lieve poor road con­di­tions caused the crash.

Jack, 29, a se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cer, died af­ter he lost con­trol of his Hon­da Civic along the Guapo Road in Fyz­abad short­ly be­fore 2 pm. The car swerved off the road, flipped, and land­ed in a res­i­dent’s yard.

Jack’s younger broth­er Em­manuel Meade said they saw footage of the ac­ci­dent.

He said, “He was com­ing back to Fyz­abad from Siparia. When he reached near to the Fyz­abad Com­pos­ite School, he hit a de­pres­sion, and the car spun. He lost con­trol.”

Meade claimed that stretch is prone to ac­ci­dents, and at least three peo­ple have lost their lives over the years.

Lament­ing that the road was in a ter­ri­ble state, he called on the au­thor­i­ties to re­pair it as soon as pos­si­ble.

Meade said he ar­rived at the crash site about 15 min­utes af­ter the ac­ci­dent. He said of­fi­cers from the Fire Ser­vice had to use the Jaws of Life to re­move his broth­er from the car, but the am­bu­lance took more than an hour to ar­rive. Jack was tak­en to the Siparia Health Fa­cil­i­ty.

Mean­while, Josanne Sa­landy, who lives close to where the ac­ci­dent oc­curred, al­so claimed there were pre­vi­ous road fa­tal­i­ties in that area.

“Yes, that road pos­es a dan­ger to us as res­i­dents. They should raise the road and flat­ten it out. It is near to a school and more should be done for the safe­ty of the chil­dren and mo­torists,” she said.

At Jack’s Fyz­abad home yes­ter­day, his moth­er Jen­nifer Meade de­scribed him as a lov­ing and car­ing per­son. She said he was the fa­ther of two young chil­dren.

Fyz­abad po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
