The pupils and teachers of Rose Hill RC Primary School in Laventille returned to classes this morning for the first time since the school was temporarily shut-down following a shooting incident last week Monday.
The children had a meeting with the school's principal Charlene Quamina before they returned to their respective classes.
They also had a prayer session and assembly.
Also present at the school for today's reopening were the CEO of the Catholic Education Board of Management (CEBM) Sharon Mangroo, and officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force's Hearts and Minds programme.
Uniformed police and soldiers were also stationed outside the school's compound.
Staff and pupils were home since October 31, following a shooting incident between warring gangs in which gunfire was heard echoing through the hills of Laventille and environs.
A two-minute video of the horrifying and heart-breaking reaction by the staff and pupils during the gunfire was posted to social media. In the recording, pupils were seen lying under tables, covering their eyes and ears as they were quieted and comforted by teaching staff. The video drew condemnation and calls for the security services to do more.
