Rowley writes US President-elect after victory, wants to deepen ties

Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley has ex­tend­ed con­grat­u­la­tions to Don­ald Trump on his vic­to­ry in the Unit­ed States Pres­i­den­tial Elec­tion, which took place on Tues­day. 

In the let­ter writ­ten to the Pres­i­dent-elect, Row­ley said on be­half of the Gov­ern­ment and peo­ple of Trinidad and To­ba­go and, on his own be­half, he wished to ex­tend sin­cere con­grat­u­la­tions on Trump’s vic­to­ry.

“The peo­ple of the Unit­ed States of Amer­i­ca have spo­ken in a clear and strong voice, and your suc­cess re­flects their trust in your vi­sion for the fu­ture.”

In the let­ter, the Prime Min­is­ter added, “The Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Unit­ed States of Amer­i­ca share a long and en­dur­ing re­la­tion­ship, found­ed on deep ties across many sec­tors, in­clud­ing trade, se­cu­ri­ty, cul­ture, and peo­ple-to-peo­ple ex­changes. We look for­ward to fur­ther strength­en­ing our co­op­er­a­tion in the years ahead.”

He end­ed the let­ter of con­grat­u­la­tions by say­ing, “I have every con­fi­dence that un­der your stew­ard­ship, the re­la­tion­ship with the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go and the wider Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty (Cari­com) will con­tin­ue to pros­per.”

Prime Min­is­ter Row­ley said he looked for­ward to en­gag­ing with the US Pres­i­dent-elect in the com­ing years to deep­en the di­a­logue be­tween Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Unit­ed States of Amer­i­ca in fur­ther­ance of “our com­mon goals and ideals.”
