A week before the start of end-of-term examinations, pupils of San Fernando TML Primary School were treated to an afternoon of fun activities on Friday in the commemoration of Universal Children’s Day.
The El Socorro Centre for Wildlife Conservation (ECWC) set up a booth on the compound and children got the opportunity to interact with the famous yellow Burmese Python and various species of birds and animals.
The children got free fresh fruit juice, home made ice cream, sno-cones, popcorn, cotton candy, free give-aways from Massy Holding and party bags filled with snacks. An open chess tournament was held for all students together with face painting and a photo booth.
Bouncy castles were set up in the multi-purpose court and parents assisted teachers while the children played a range of traditional games including hula hoops and balloon pops. A football match was also held in the school’s playground.
School principal Wahida Mohammed-Narine addressed the audience expressing thanks to the PTA of San Fernando TML, school staff , the Scouts, the Chess Club, the Arabic Class and all parents who partnered to host the event.
Mohammed-Narine said the Children’s Day event is the start of a series of celebrations in commemoration of the school’s 70 anniversary, the Platinum Jubilee which will be on 19th January, 2023.
“Focus is on the ideal child, to ensure all children are happy, healthy, academically balanced and growing well,” she explained.
She added: “The school grasped at this opportunity for students and parents to return to normal activities, having been deprived of social interaction and physical activity for the past two years, due to the COVID-19 restrictions.”
The Public Relations Officer of the school’s PTA, Ginelle Baldeo also thanked all stakeholders.
“Our parents and sponsors generously donated towards the event. Also, our parent volunteers would have volunteered their time, vehicles and themselves to assist in the event,” Baldeo said.
Parents of the Standard Five classes also expressed gratitude to the school for this initiative saying it was a welcomed break for the SEA students.
