The search for a Laventille man who reportedly drowned whilst bathing at Blanchisseuse Beach with his family on Sunday, continued yesterday.

Anthony Charles, 45, of Upper Erica Street, Laventille, disappeared whilst swimming around 3.45 pm on September 8.

The 45-year-old man was said to be in the water with his 44-year-old wife, their five-year-old son, and two other adults when the group was caught in a rip current approximately 100 feet from shore.

As the bathers raised an alarm by shouting for help, they were swept further out to sea.

Charles’ wife and the two other adults, as well as his son, who had been wearing a life jacket, were eventually pulled to safety.

Even as these rescue efforts were underway, Charles continued to be pulled out further by the current, and suddenly shouted he was experiencing cramps.

He subsequently disappeared under the water approximately 150 feet from the shore.

A search along the shoreline was made for the victim but Charles’ body was not found.

Further searches were mounted by personnel from the Coast Guard, the TTPS Air Support, the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, and Blanchisseuse fisherfolk yesterday.
