Second Ghanian detained on forgery charges

A sec­ond Ghan­ian has been de­tained by Im­mi­gra­tion Di­vi­sion of­fi­cials, af­ter ap­pear­ing in court this week, charged with three counts of Forgery.

Frank Asare, 46, of Diego Mar­tin Main Road, was charged with one count of pos­ses­sion of a forged doc­u­ment and two counts of ut­ter­ing a forged doc­u­ment, when he ap­peared in the Port of Spain 1st Mag­is­trates’ Court on Tues­day.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to Ju­ly 26th.

It is al­leged that in No­vem­ber 2022, a man vis­it­ed the Im­mi­gra­tion Of­fice, Knox Street, San Fer­nan­do, and had in his pos­ses­sion a forged cit­i­zen­ship dat­ed May 10th, 2022, in favour of Frank Asare, pur­port­ed­ly is­sued by the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty.

On the same day, the de­fen­dant pre­sent­ed to the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty, Im­mi­gra­tion Of­fice, San Fer­nan­do, the said Cit­i­zen­ship of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go Cer­tifi­cate, dat­ed May 10th, 2022 in sup­port of an ap­pli­ca­tion for a Trinidad and To­ba­go Pass­port.

How­ev­er, it was lat­er dis­cov­ered that the Cit­i­zen­ship of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go Cer­tifi­cate of Reg­is­tra­tion dat­ed May 10th, 2022 pur­port­ed­ly is­sued by the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty was a forged doc­u­ment.

Fur­ther on Au­gust 5th 2022 the de­fen­dant pre­sent­ed to the Elec­tion and Bound­aries Com­mis­sion, Diego Mar­tin Reg­is­tra­tion Area Of­fice, Cit­i­zen­ship of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go Cer­tifi­cate dat­ed May 10th, 2022 in sup­port of an ap­pli­ca­tion for a Trinidad and To­ba­go Iden­ti­fi­ca­tion Card, how­ev­er it was lat­er dis­cov­ered that the said Cit­i­zen­ship of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go Cer­tifi­cate of Reg­is­tra­tion dat­ed May 10th, 2022 was a forged doc­u­ment.

Ex­ten­sive en­quiries were con­duct­ed dur­ing the pe­ri­od May to June 2023 by a par­ty of of­fi­cers, led by Ag. As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent Bry­on Daniel and in­clud­ed WP In­spec­tor Mc Mil­lan-Mo­hammed, Sgt. Co­dring­ton, Cpls Em­rith, Ramku­mar, Ram­ber­ran and Pitt, PCs Ed­wards, Noel and Sub­ran.

A search war­rant was lat­er ex­e­cut­ed at the home of the ac­cused where sev­er­al doc­u­ments were found and seized, the ac­cused was then ar­rest­ed.

Asare was charged by PC Noel Gar­cia with the three of­fences on Mon­day 26th June, 2023.
