An hour after 50-year-old Franz Lavine died at the scene of a shooting at 69 Sports Bar and Grill in St Anns another of the victims of that attack died at hospital.
He has been identified as Hayden Etienne, 44, of St Anns Road.
Lavine, of Sandale Avenue, Diego Martin, and Etienne were among a group of men gathered near the bar shortly after 5 pm on Saturday when gunmen emerged from a black Nissan X-trail and opened fire on them.
The men tried to run for cover but Lavine, a security guard, was killed on the spot. Etienne was among three others who were hit. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died around 7 pm while undergoing treatment.
Police said only one of the other two people who had been shot had gone to the hospital for treatment up to yesterday afternoon.
However, they were able to arrest in connection with the shooting. Officers from the Homicide Bureau, led by Sgt Seecharan, received a tip about one of the suspects and went to Tilbury Place in East Dry River, Port-of-Spain, where they arrested a 29-year-old man.
Police said the suspect had injuries to both feet.
For several hours after the incident, residents were unable to enter or leave the area as St. Ann’s Road was blocked off for crime scene processing for close to four hours.
A group of Fondes Amandes residents said there had been concerns about some of the activities at the bar, as well as an increase in criminal activity in the area recently. Another resident, Daryl Boucaud, had been murdered just a few days earlier.
