Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, has said the Cumuto/Sangre Grande Highway will not be opened until April 2024.
He made this disclosure to Guardian Media in an exclusive tour of the Cumuto/Sangre Grande Highway.
Sinanan said five kilometers of the Cumuto/Sangre Grande Highway have been completed but further construction will be put on hold in the interim.
He said the reason for this stoppage is to have 1.6 kilometres of a new connector Road to Guaico in Sangre Grande completed so that there will be one official opening which is airmarked for April 2024.
The connector road, he said, will take motorists a shorter time to reach Sangre Grande. This will help the traffic jam that motorists face on a daily basis on the Valencia stretch.
The Guaico Connector Road begins in the vicinity of the Guaico Post Office and enters the Cumuto/Sangre Grande Highway.
He said this new connector road will facilitate motorists spending less time in their entry and exit into the town of Sangre Grande facing less traffic.
