There is a scarcity of sorrel across the country for Christmas.
Consumers have reported that access to the popular red arrow-shaped leaf plant used for the popular Christmas drink has not been as widely available as in previous years.
Head of the Agricultural Society of Trinidad and Tobago, Daryl Rampersad, explained that few vendors have the crop in stock.
He said this is as a result of recent weather conditions which decimated fields of the flower.
"If I can count on my hand how many vendors I saw this morning with sorrel from Sangre Grande straight into the farming community of Bonne Aventure it was just one individual and I've spoken to several individuals who actually grow sorrel as well too and they told me they had some sorrel coming in in the earlier part of the season and with the additional rainfall most of the crops were destroyed," he said.
