St Joseph’s Convent students leave for UNESCO debate in Argentina

Sev­en stu­dents, along with a teacher co­or­di­na­tor of the St Joseph’s Con­vent Port-of-Spain UN­ESCO Club, will be par­tic­i­pat­ing in the 20th In­ter­na­tion­al Mod­el UN­ESCO which is card­ed to take place from Oc­to­ber 2 to 5.

The team will rep­re­sent Mada­gas­car and have been hard at work since June con­duct­ing re­search.

It is a sim­u­la­tion of the Gen­er­al Con­fer­ence of UN­ESCO and con­sists of in­for­mal ne­go­ti­a­tions and for­mal de­bates reach­ing res­o­lu­tion projects.

These are then sent to the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion in Ar­genti­na and the UN­ESCO board in Paris.

Stu­dents en­gage in dis­cus­sions and sim­u­la­tions with peers from var­i­ous coun­tries in the ar­eas of sci­ence, so­cial sci­ence and cul­ture and ed­u­ca­tion.

Stu­dents learn val­ues such as re­spect, tol­er­ance and ne­go­ti­a­tions.

The teacher co­or­di­na­tor of the group is Ali­cia Stephens.

The stu­dents are: Mariel Gar­cia in the role of Am­bas­sador, Aque­ena Alexan­der and Shi­anne Dwar­ka rep­re­sent­ing the Sci­ence Com­mis­sion, Vic­to­ria Tom­my and Vic­to­ria Beekhoo will rep­re­sent the Ed­u­ca­tion and Cul­ture Com­mis­sion while Kamili Le Blanc and Alex­ia Trim will rep­re­sent the So­cial Sci­ences Com­mis­sion
