A taxi driver is expected to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today, charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly behaviour.
The 31-year-old Chaguanas man was arrested at Busy Corner, Chaguanas, on Thursday afternoon, following an incident with the police.
Police Constables Villafana and Ramdeen of the Chaguanas Foot Patrol were issuing the man tickets for two traffic offences, when he flew into a rage and began insulting the officers.
When Villafana attempted to arrest him, the man violently pulled away and began kicking the officer. He was eventually subdued by the officers who conveyed him to the Chaguanas Police Station, where he was charged by PC Ramdeen.
Officer Villafana was taken to Chaguanas Health Facility by his colleagues after experiencing severe abdominal pains. He was treated and discharged a few hours later.
