A taxi dri­ver is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Ch­agua­nas mag­is­trate to­day, charged with as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer, re­sist­ing ar­rest and dis­or­der­ly be­hav­iour.

The 31-year-old Ch­agua­nas man was ar­rest­ed at Busy Cor­ner, Ch­agua­nas, on Thurs­day af­ter­noon, fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent with the po­lice.

Po­lice Con­sta­bles Vil­lafana and Ramdeen of the Ch­agua­nas Foot Pa­trol were is­su­ing the man tick­ets for two traf­fic of­fences, when he flew in­to a rage and be­gan in­sult­ing the of­fi­cers.

When Vil­lafana at­tempt­ed to ar­rest him, the man vi­o­lent­ly pulled away and be­gan kick­ing the of­fi­cer. He was even­tu­al­ly sub­dued by the of­fi­cers who con­veyed him to the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion, where he was charged by PC Ramdeen.

Of­fi­cer Vil­lafana was tak­en to Ch­agua­nas Health Fa­cil­i­ty by his col­leagues af­ter ex­pe­ri­enc­ing se­vere ab­dom­i­nal pains. He was treat­ed and dis­charged a few hours lat­er.
