Teen remanded to YTRC after assaulting police officer

A 17-year-old girl has been re­mand­ed in cus­tody, at the Youth Train­ing Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­tre (YTRC), af­ter she ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter of the High Court Ni­rala Bansee-Sookhai at the Ju­ve­nile Court-on March 17.

The teenag­er was charged with As­sault­ing a Po­lice Of­fi­cer in the ex­e­cu­tion of her du­ties.

The ac­cused is ex­pect­ed to re-ap­pear in court on April 14.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports last week while a teenag­er was be­ing con­veyed to the Chil­dren’s Au­thor­i­ty head­quar­ters, by a Woman Po­lice Con­sta­ble, it’s al­leged that the teenag­er be­gan to

be­have in a dis­or­der­ly man­ner and used ob­scene lan­guage.

The teen was cau­tioned and warned by the of­fi­cer, but her be­hav­ior con­tin­ued.

It’s al­leged that when the WPC again spoke to her about her be­hav­iour, the teenag­er be­came en­raged and as­sault­ed the of­fi­cer.

The teenag­er was tak­en to a near­by po­lice sta­tion where she was ar­rest­ed and sub­se­quent­ly charged by Cpl Far­rell for as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer in the ex­e­cu­tion of her du­ties.
