Tobago calypsonian Alex Gift (Tobago Chalkie) will appear before the Scarborough Magistrate’s Court today, charged with four counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm on his landlady Sobah Samuel.
His wife- Verleen Gift- was charged with assault by beating. She got bail while Tobago Chalkie remains in police custody.
This is according to Tobago’s Police Media Ambassador and Inspector(Ag.) Alicia Piggott.
According to a police report, a man allegedly threw a substance on Samuel on Thursday, following a rent and wall construction incident at a Bon Accord hardware store on the land leased from Samuel.
The landlady was also allegedly beaten by the man’s wife.
Samuel was treated at the Scarborough hospital.
On Friday, Samuel told Guardian Media when the substance was thrown on her, her clothes stuck to her skin, and she was in pain.
Crown Point police continue investigations.
