A machine gun was among millions of dollars’ worth of narcotics seized by police in Tobago, while the contraband was being smuggled into the island last night.
Two men were arrested on Monday night after police reportedly found $42 million worth of drugs and weapons on their boat at Pigeon Point Beach, Tobago.
Police told Guardian Media they seized some 231.7 kilograms of marijuana, worth over $36 million, and 13 kilograms of cocaine, valued at $6 million. Officers also found two pistols, a machine gun, and 167 rounds of ammunition.
The police operation took place around 7:30 pm on Monday (December 2, 2024), and was led by ACP Oswain Subero and Snr Supt Earl Elie, along with officers from the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
The two suspects—one from Buccoo and the other from Marabella—were arrested on the boat.
The unregistered boat was impounded, and both men were taken into custody.
Police investigations are continuing.
Guardian Media understands that both men are expected to be charged.
