A Toco man was shot dead while at home early on Christmas morning. Police said that Kelvin Ramsamooj was asleep at his Monsegue Trace, Toco, home at 2.40 am when a relative who was also in the house reported hearing gunshots.
The relative on checking saw that Ramsamooj tried to run away, but collapsed nearby and was bleeding from gunshot wounds to his back.
Officers from the Toco Police Station were called in and took Ramsamooj to the Toco Health Centre where he was pronounced dead.
Crime Scene Investigators and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region II visited the scene and collected several items.
Two wounded in San Juan shooting
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the wounding of two men in San Juan early on Christmas Eve morning.
Police said the men ages 35 and 38 were liming near a mini-mart on Gran Curucaye Road, around 1 am when they heard gunshots and ran through a nearby track for cover.
Residents heard the gunshots and called the police.
Officers of the North Eastern Division visited the scene and found the wounded men hiding in a track.
Officers took them to the hospital where they received treatment.
One of the men was shot in the left hand while the other was shot in the right thigh.
Police are also investigating a situation where a policeman shot at gunmen near his home around the same time.
Police said the officer who is assigned to the Court and Process Branch was in the gallery of his home around 12.30 am when he noticed four men near his car which was parked on the street.
The men, he said, fired gunshots into the air.
The officer called the police but heard a second set of gunfire and one of the men pointed a gun at him, prompting him to shoot at them.
Both suspects fled by running through a nearby track.
Police found two spent shells and a bullet fragment at the scene.
