Officers attached to the Highway Patrol Unit seized over $1.7 million worth of cannabis during what they thought was a routine traffic exercise in Chaguanas yesterday.
According to police reports, while patrolling along the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, Chaguanas, officers stopped a Volkswagen Passat vehicle to check the vehicle’s compliance with tint regulations. The behaviour of the driver and passengers raised officers’ suspicion, prompting them to search the vehicle.
During the search, officers found 20 packets of compressed cannabis with a total weight of 11.76 kilograms valued at approximately $1,760,060.
The suspects were immediately arrested and are currently assisting police with ongoing inquiries.
