The Tranquillity Secondary School students involved in the fight on Monday that caused their principal Ann-Margaret Robinson to fall to the ground are being suspended.
This was the word yesterday from Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, who said Robinson was not seriously injured in the incident, which occurred last week.
In a viral video of the incident, two fights between female students seemed to be happening at the same time. Robinson tried to stop one of the fights and was thrown to the ground.
Yesterday, Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools T&T president Sharlene Hicks-Raeburn said while it’s in their job to ensure the safety and security of all students and others on compounds, principals need to take care of themselves.
“Careful of your safety, your personal safety in everything,” she said.
Hicks-Raeburn said they had reached out to Robinson.
“It’s sad, it is sad and you look at it with a key eye and you wonder what triggered it, how could it have been prevented,” she said.
She added, “We cannot give up on the students.”
T&T Unified Teachers’ Association president Martin Lum Kin meanwhile said they had flagged Tranquillity Secondary to the Education Ministry as one of the schools that needed deep intervention due to indiscipline amongst the students.
“The teachers have been trying their utmost best to get the situation under control but they can only do so much,” he said.
Lum Kin called for more Safety and Security Officers at the school.
